Artist’s Statement

Portraits, Graphic Design and Murals

Having been deeply influenced by many different cultures and environments, Lani appreciates observing the innate beauty and essence within an individual. Portraying more than their appearance, she strives to reflect their personality and relation to nature. Whether focusing on the details of an animal or person, she often finds herself smiling as she paints, connecting to their character and hoping to represent their unique spirit. Celebrating color, texture, movement, and the quirkiness of a subject matter, she has a desire to lift the spirits of the viewer. Her commissions are often created as a memorial to loved ones passed and she feels a sense of responsibility to honor their memory and portray their unique spark.

The logos Lani creates come from the same desire to represent the personality and/or intentions of a business and its community. The murals she has designed and completed are a result of many discussions with her clients about what atmosphere they would like to create and the tone she hopes to set for their business, home, or neighborhood.

With the personal aim to exceed her clients’ expectations, Lani McKay approaches each project with her unique experience and respect for life, beauty, and artistic expression.
